For Concert Band, Easy (Grade 1½) - 1:25
Dedicated to my Wife, Elinor
This work evokes the sensation of standing on a Scottish hillside, overlooking the pleasant town of Linlithgow across the loch of the same name. The birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots (who reigned over Scotland from 1542 to 1567), Linlithgow is a royal burgh of historical importance, and features a beautiful 15th-century church, the partly ruined Palace, and the ancient tradition of the Riding of the Marches.
For the first time in one of my band compositions, I have included a piano reduction. This can be used to support the band when they are first learning their parts, or it can even provide cover for missing voices in a performance if the instrumentation is thin.
"European" parts (E-flat horn, treble clef low brass, etc.) can be prepared on request.
